The Aberdeen Youth Games aims to establish a citywide sports programme that promotes and increases physical activity and healthy lifestyle amongst Aberdeen's young people. This is achieved through partner organisations working together to place sports students within schools to deliver additional sport and coaching sessions to 3,500 primary school pupils each year.
The programme ends in the annual Aberdeen Youth Games where 1,000 primary school children participate in a one day festival of sport.
Sports and activities are provided to create equal opportunities for looked after children and young people in the City.
Social workers have commented on the positive impact that activities have had on the young people; specifically, the opportunities to spend free time productively at the activity and also the positive connections the programme helps build with the community, as well as enhancing individual self-confidence and self-worth.
